Pip & Alex’s Devon Tipi Wedding!

I recently had the absolute pleasure of photographing Pip and Alex’s beautiful wedding, which took place across two stunning locations in Devon. From a heartfelt church ceremony to a tipi-style festival celebration on the family farm, their day was full of love, laughter, and unforgettable moments—despite the rain that accompanied much of the afternoon! From the moment I met Pip and Alex, I could feel how loved they are by their friends and family. They have this incredible warmth that draws people in, and it was clear that their wedding day was going to be as fun and full of life as they are. Their day felt like one big celebration of not only their love but also the community of people who surround and support them.

A Church Ceremony in Devon

The day began with prep at home then a beautiful church wedding in mid-Devon – just 30 minutes from home for us! It was one of those ceremonies where you could see the emotion in everyone’s faces—from the misty-eyed parents to beaming friends, all genuinely overjoyed for Pip and Alex, and the smiles as Pip and Alex left the church as well as the epic confetti line were all JOY!.

Tipi Wedding on the Family Farm

After the ceremony, we headed to Pip’s family farm, where the real festival-style celebration kicked off! They had set up a tipi on the farm grounds, creating this wonderfully relaxed, rustic atmosphere that perfectly suited their personalities. This was the heart of the party, where brilliant local suppliers came together to make the day extra special. From incredible food by Gaucho BBQ and Basement 17 Tacos to local beers from Topsham Brewery and Exeter Brewery, everything had a personal, handcrafted touch, the flowers and set up by Jessica’s gardens (an extremely talented local florist) looked seriously beautiful.

The weather had its own plans, and rain fell throughout the afternoon. But honestly? It only added to the fun. I’ve always believed that it’s the moments—not the weather—that make a wedding, and this day was proof of that. The rain didn’t dampen the spirits one bit. The tipi became a cozy hub of warmth, with guests laughing, dancing, and enjoying every second of the celebration. Rain-soaked dance floors always seem to bring out the most energy, and this one was no different!

The Power of Documentary Wedding Photography

As a documentary wedding photographer, I love capturing the genuine emotions and candid moments that tell the true story of the day. Pip and Alex’s wedding was full of those incredible, fleeting expressions—from Alex’s face when he first saw Pip walking down the aisle, to the laughter shared under umbrellas as the rain came down. These are the moments that last a lifetime, and being able to document them is always such an honor.

For couples planning a Devon wedding, especially if you’re thinking of incorporating a tipi or festival-style celebration, this day was a perfect reminder that no matter the weather, your wedding will be unique and magical in its own way. Pip and Alex embraced every part of their day, making it a joyous, unforgettable event for everyone involved.

If you’re considering a tipi wedding in Devon, you couldn’t ask for a more beautiful setting. The rolling hills, the peaceful countryside, and the natural beauty of the region make it an ideal spot for those looking to create a relaxed, festival-like atmosphere. A tipi wedding brings a wonderful blend of elegance and fun, allowing you to celebrate in style while also enjoying the freedom of an outdoor space. And even if the weather isn’t perfect, like on Pip and Alex’s day, there’s something incredibly cozy about huddling inside a tipi while the rain falls around you.

Devon offers so many amazing venues and local suppliers that can bring your vision to life. Pip and Alex’s celebration was a perfect example of how local talent—alongside the team at World Inspired Tents and the incredible caterers—can transform a family farm into a dream wedding venue.
