Anna’s Shot of The Month – Why I Love Creative Wedding Photography

We decided to make things a bit fun and have a shot of the month, something that shows a bit of creative wedding photography.

I chose this image of Holly & Josh’s wedding at the Ash Barton Estate in North Devon. We didn’t have a lot of time for bride and groom portraits and was getting dark and cold on a February afternoon. I saw the old window of the barn and it looked atmospheric with all the candles set out for the ceremony. I asked Holly and Josh just to stand and have a moment to themselves while I went outside. The light wasn’t fantastic and there were lots of reflections – including myself! So I had to move my position around whilst being mindful of the limited time.

I only took about 4/5 frames and this is my favourite. I chose this shot because of the time restraints and the need to think quickly. It may not be the most creative shot i’ve ever taken. I didn’t use any off-camera flash, or shoot-throughs – I just wanted to take something with a bit of atmosphere.

Sometimes (often) as a wedding photographer you don’t get the time originally planned. Weddings often run late! So its important to be able to think on your feet – I don’t want angry chefs telling me off for ruining the wedding breakfast! So for this reason I chose this image. This reason and the fact I do love it. We at Luna are always looking to create something a little different at a wedding. We like to create a set of images unique to our couples with a mix of story-telling photography and creative wedding photography.
